Pantry to Plate: A Day of Learning, Cooking and Sharing

On Saturday 31 October, our Pantry to Plate cooking demonstration sold out, and we still had people asking for more tickets. Part cooking class, part practical workshop, the session sent everyone home with fresh cooking ideas, new meal planning habits and plenty to taste.

Seven women sit around a table at the Pantry to Plate cooking demonstration, smiling at the camera. One waves. The table has a jug of lemon water, fruit-print napkins and coloured folders.

Meet Ronel, our host

Two women stand side by side in a bright teaching kitchen at the Pantry to Plate cooking demonstration. Ronel, on the left, wears a dark top with a clip-on microphone and holds a small tub of food. The woman on the right wears a pink-striped apron and has her arm out in a cheerful wave.

Ronel, of Orewa Elevate Trust, led the session. She cooked three simple, delicious recipes designed to help us make the most of the food we already have at home. Along the way, she shared tips on reducing food waste, planning meals, shopping wisely and eating more whole foods.

The takeaway: healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. By planning ahead, using ingredients creatively and choosing whole foods, households can eat well, spend less and waste less.

And of course, no cooking demonstration is complete without a taste. Attendees sampled each dish, and the room was full of happy chatter. Many commented on how flavourful, simple and practical the recipes were, and the tasting brought the ideas to life.

A Big Thank You to Our Helpers

An event like this doesn’t happen without a dedicated team behind the scenes. Our helpers prepared ingredients, kept the kitchen running smoothly, served samples and welcomed everyone with a smile. We’re so grateful for your time and energy.

Thank You to Everyone Who Came

Thank you for joining us, for your curiosity and for your lovely energy. We hope you left feeling inspired, with new skills and a few new habits to try in your own kitchen.

Ticket sales will help support future Orewa Elevate Trust programmes. Keep an eye on our website and social channels for what’s next. Until then, happy cooking, and remember: sometimes the best meals are already waiting in your pantry.
